Casey Whittier: Links to Chains Workshop (1-4pm)

Inspired by the history of chains ,this workshop uses the “chain” as a starting point for an imaginative and expansive investigation of the simple desire to make connections. Participants will learn to roll and extrude coils and pinch or twist shapes that are playful, imaginative, serious, or symbolic. We will look at systems of connection as we consider how to build from  discrete units into forms that are “more than the sum of their parts”.  Drawing inspiration from simple paper chains, the jewelry we wear or admire, or from the functional cables and chains that make the modern machinery we rely on work, participants will have the opportunity to create their own unique ceramic chains and systems of connection using clay and mixed media.
